I have inherited my bond with
the land from my ancestors who have farmed for longer than collective memory. My Grandparents' stories of life in Czarist Russia enriched my genetic ties. My immediate family of farmers and ranchers continued this tradition of planting,
caring, tilling and bringing forth all that sustains life for the body and
for the spirit. Nature is my inspiration, my solace, and my adventure.
Good fortune has allowed me to experience the world's diversity through travel
across the seas, hiking, backpacking, climbing mountains and seeking out
the wilderness and nature. For me it was inevitable that as a painter, the
power of these images would influence my hand and appear on my canvas. |
| This connection with nature is one reason I have
chosen to explore the land, wind and weather by painting en plein air
("open air"). I paint
on location, then return to the studio to continue
my investigation of the world expressed upon my canvas. Painting in images, covering them up, perhaps revealing them again, this is all part
of the evolutionary process that
appears on my canvas. |
